My family is third generation, Irish-American descent. Through parades and events we get the opportunity to see Irish dance and it is always a delight. I am happy to see the young in my family taking Irish dance too - passing it down through the generations. The tradition for Irish Dance is a rich one which takes a lot of dedication and gives so much in return.
2 Videos on Irish Dance
I saw both of these videos via www.irishphiladelphia.com one of my favorite sites for learning about local Irish news and events.
Traffic Stopping Irish Dance http://irishphiladelphia.com/2012/04/traffic-stopping-irish-dancers/ and the McDade Cara School of Dance from Delaware County outside of Philadelphia.
I enjoyed watching this video of students talking about what Irish Dance is about. It was created through interviews of Dancers from Dunleavy Shaffer School. The girls listed what it takes to be involved in Irish dancing today. It is hard work involving many hours and energy.
What It Takes

They jokingly added 'elimination' which is a reference to feis contests.
Thanks to the handing down of this tradition to young people world wide, this is one tradition that happily won't face 'elimination' any time soon.
How is this tradition best kept strong? What does it take? How have you seen it grow and change over the years? These are 2 videos I enjoyed which highlight Irish dance. What are your favorites?
